    • Google has said in the past it was thinking of combating fragmentation in the market by removing its stock Google apps from the ROM and making them downloadable. The problem with this is that the providers make a lot of software uninstallable. Tested has a great analysis of the problems with manufacturer created modifications/skins. As they point out, re manufacturer customizations and such, “Motorola might also choose to restrict the apps to just their phones, like HTC restricts their Sense widgets in the Market.
  • After one week, Tweetdeck for Android is generating more tweets and updates than the 3 month old Tweetdeck for iPad. And it’s still in beta.
  • Trillian releases Time-limited Beta for Android

    • Rockbox may be coming as an application to Android. Rockbox is an open source firmware for mp3 players.
    • Music Mod for Froyo (Website, Install via AppBrain) – Updated version of the Froyo Stock Music Player. Browsing remains the same, but alters the Now Playing screen to support your wallpaper, and adds some great widgets that support album art.

  • Securing your Phone – Researchers are recommending the use of pattern locks be discontinued, as the smudges on a touchscreen made by your fingers can be used to determine your pattern. Froyo now offers pin and password based options, but they are a pain.

    • New App Licensing Scheme may be easy to break
    • The Developer of the popular Advanced Task Manager has opened his accountings, showing Android is a viable market. In February 09, the first day paid apps were permitted, he released the product. In November of the same year, he released the free ad supported version. To date, he’s made $50,000 AFTER Google’s 30% cut. The free revenue from Admob came to $29,000. The author further states that Checkout and the Market app are probably the biggest thing holding back revenue right now.
