    • iPhone 5 released, we say meh.
    • Jimmy Kimmel asks for review of iPhone 5, but shows people the iPhone 4S.
    • GigaOm author Kevin Fitchard maintains the LTE iPhone 5 will make mobile data cheaper.
    • Is your carrier overbilling you for mobile data? – Research group built a custom app that counts bytes received, and tested it on two US carriers. They were billed for 450mb that weren’t actually consumed. In testing, a typical 5-7%, because the carriers track from when it leaves their core, not when it is received on the phone. With dropped packets due the nature of mobile, this can mean you are being billed for something not received.

    • Amazon Kindle has a cheaper model, the Wendell.
    • Author invites World to Watch Her Write Her New Novel via Google Docs.  Fantasy author Silvia Hartmann is writing her latest novel in Google Docs, the on-line collaborative word processor—and inviting the world to watch.
    • Mobile Device Privacy Act would require companies to inform consumers if any monitoring software is included. If so, it must detail the type of information, who will receive it, and what it will be used for. The FCC would be allowed to grant reasonable exemptions. 
    • Senator Leahy (D-VT) is introducing a new bill to give email stored remotely the same privacy protections as email stored on a home computer. The current regulation, passed in 1986, assumes that if you haven’t downloaded your email, it is considered “abandoned” after 180 days. The new bill will require a probable cause driven warrant. 
    • Warrantless wiretap bill passes, authorizes 5 more years of domestic spying. 
    • Google adds Bacon Number search to determine degrees of Kevin Bacon questions.
    • Fairsearch, a group whose purpose is to perpetuate the idea that Google isn’t fair with search results, claims that all Android devices are required to use Google search.
  • Platform News
    • Google stops Acer from releasing a new smartphone in China running Aliyun OS. Aliyun OS, developed by Chinese company Alibaba. Aliyun is based on Android, but modified, which is acceptable, however, if companies want to stay part of the Open Handset Alliance, they have to promise not to contribute to forks that are incompatible with the main branch….and thus cannot run standard apps, yet their store seems to provide Google Apps(pirated), and a variety of other pirated apps. 
    • Motorola loses rubber-banding patent case in Germany against Apple. 
    • Triggertrap comes to Android, an app + a dongle to trigger an SLR camer.
    • Xamarin is ready for Visual Studio 2012 launch, visual studio add-in is ready for design, develop, deploy, and debug Android apps. 
    • Jellybean ported to Intel processors. 
    • CyanogenMod 10 to release M-Series Releases, M-Series builds will be monthly, and will be more stable than the nightlies.

    • Ebay recalls 2.0 update due problems.
    • M Player updated to 2.0, brings background playback, improved software decoding. (Play Link)
    • Sirius XM hits 2.2, now includes on demand radio, and offline caching. (Play Link)
    • Nissan and Infiniti Are Going to Start Processing Car Lease Returns With An App.
    • CyanogenMod releases improvements to stock clock app, adding stopwatch and timer features. Also adds improvements to Stock Calculator app, including advanced functions. Upgraded version is available in the Play Store as well. (Play Link)
    • US Cellular releases Wi-FI Now app, automatically connects to quality wi-fi networks to save on mobile bandwidth.
    • Google Maps with Navigation arrives in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Bahrain, and Algeria. Requires ICS or higher. 
    • Google improves Chrome Android browser security, adds location preferences, enhanced YouTube playback and third party keyboard support. 
    • Tripit adds push notifications for travel alerts, requires TripIt Pro service. 
    • Playboard for Android tries to help you find other apps. (Play Link)
    • Zuckerberg promises HTML5 Android Facebook app will be replaced with native Android app
    • Pocket can now read articles to you using Android’s Text-to-Speech.
    • Chameleon Launcher now in Play Store for $10. (Play Link)
