    • Steve Jobs delivers 5 minute rant against Android during Apple earnings call.
    • Andy Rubin replied on Twitter…”the definition of open: “mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git ; repo sync ; make” (More on what you need to actually compile Android)
    • Steve Jobs thinks “Twitterdeck”‘s Android stats, showing many different types of ROMS, indicates what sort of nightmare it is to program for Android. Tweetdeck responded not only was it not a nightmare, but they only have two Android developers, so it was hardly a monumental task.
    • Reports are that Gingerbread will be version 2.3, not 3.0 of Android.
    • But it will be here soon, as Techcrunch reports on a released video showing the delivery of the Gingerbread man to Google HQ.
    • HTC Evo 4G appears on Fringe
  • App Release/Update News
    • Youtube is now decoupled from the ROM and available in the market. The new version is a significant overall from the previous one.
    • ADW Launcher received an update, and offers fluid widget resizing. An auxiliary paid app called ADW Notifier puts a counter tag on application icons showing how many notifications it currently has, and supports third-party development. Competitor LauncherPro already offers something similar.
    • Pocket Informant Calender/Task App is coming to Android. Beta is in the market (Install via AppBrain)
    • Winamp for Android released (Install via AppBrain) – It syncs with your desktop Winamp library.
    • Update to Nook app coming in November – includes dramatically increased page turn speed, customized library organization, and password protection.  Another much-desire feature, Reading Now, will let readers pick up wherever they last left off, across any and all devices…similar to the Kindle Whispersync.
    • QuickDesk Update (Install via AppBrain) – Includes Swap home key functionality, quickpanel task switching, new edit mode, notifications counter(ADW supported). Pro version is forthcoming, and would include drag-to-kill, force stop, shortcuts in QuickPanel, reset Widget in QuickPanel.

    • WalkyTalky (Install via AppBrain) – speaks the address of nearby locations as you walk pass them during navigation.
    • Intersection Explorer (Install via AppBrain) – Speaks the streets at the nearest intersection when you touch the screen.

Automatically organizes and enhances what you save with useful links. Syncs with springpadit.com for universal access.
