Episode 19 – Off By One Error

By | November 24, 2010

This is our twentieth episode, and we’ve been doing this for almost 5 months now.

Show Notes

    • Platform News
      • Looxcie (look-see) USD199 – interesting new Android accessory. Bluetooth boom VGA camera. Records up to 5 hours, and when it gets to the beginning, it starts over. Acts as a bluetooth headset as well. Videos are time-stamped.
      • Chitika released its stats for traffic across Android devices. Verizon Droid line accounts for 44%, specifically the Droid is number one at 19%, and the Evo 4G is second at 12%, third is the Droid X at 10%.
      • Steve Wozniak allegedly stated Android Phones have More Features. He didn’t. He admitted Android is likely to beat iOS in terms of market share though, a lot like Windows beat Mac.
    • App News
      • Market Update – Now with new options including a high resolution app icon (512 x512), a feature graphic (1024 x 500), and the ability to add a YouTube link for a promotional video.
      • Google Docs now has a new documents editor that supports mobile and works for Android 2.2.
      • AppBrain version 5 released – Offers a detail page instead of sending you to the Google Market. Fast Web Installer is now built in, and you can uninstall the separate app. Google has disabled the Fast Web Installer in the latest market updates, so it might not be viable for much longer. New Fast Sync Widget.
      • Pulse News Reader is now free.
      • Google Sky Map updated, now supports time travel and multitouch.
      • Official Chase Bank App released.
      • Tweetdeck Update. Includes landscape view.
      • Remember the Milk App Updated, adds push syncing.
    • Astrid no longer supports RTM in its app(can still download a version from their site with RTM support), so Guru is trying Google Tasks support in the app, rather than looking for a paid alternative.
    • Calibre
    • Yaaic (Changelog, install via AppBrain) –
    • Netfront Life Screen (Review, Install via AppBrain) – New and exciting, but slow and not anywhere near ready for regular use.

Hi Guru & Jere, I gave that new launcher a try and for me the excitement was Oh OK is that all… it did sound better than it looked! but anyway at least I gave it a try 😉

Netfront Life Screen is an interesting idea, but it isn’t for me. I enjoy Sense UI on my Incredible. I really do hope to see more innovative ideas in the launcher space in the future and Netfront Life Screen is a good start.
