Many people like to read, and want to take advantage of the fledgling ebook lending available at their local library. One of the most popular services for that is something called OverDrive Media Console, which you must install on your Windows or Mac based computer, and which usually uses an Adobe DRM solution to ensure books are returned at the end of the lending period.

There is already an Overdrive Media Console app for Android(install via AppBrain), however it is merely an MP3 audiobook player, and doesn’t support more popular audiobook offerings, which are usually in protected WMA format.

Overdrive is offering a sneak preview of its EBook app for iPhone, which it promises will be followed by an iPad and Android app. The new app will support EPUB books, and will allow you to download your library’s existing DRM-protected EPUB books without need for a computer with Adobe Digital Editions installed. It will auto-delete them when the lending period is over.

It is an exciting time.
